There are several “ferry” crossings on the Venice Grand Canal that are actually large gondolas. We paid 2 Euro to stand in the large gondola with a bunch of other people to cross to the other side. It saved a long walk to the nearest bridge. The red striped gondolier powered us across while avoiding the constant flow of boats.
