This is an underside view of the giant red lantern that hangs in the entry gate to the Asakusa Shrine in Tokyo. Most people will walk through without ever looking underneath to see the detailed wood carving. I arrived at 9:30am on this day to beat the crowds. The walkway lined with shops leading to the shrine will be packed with people later in the morning.
