  • The Sera Monastery is one of the "great three" Gelug university monasteries of Tibet, located 1.25 miles (2.01 km) north of Lhasa and about 5 km (3.1 mi) north of the Jokhang.

  • There was a unexpected light snow on the pass when trying to leave Lake Namtso.  It was a scarry experience as the ill equiped minibus started to slide sideways on the high mountain road.  We all got out to llighten the load and walked a few hundred meters.  The very cold air and little oxygen at the pass made breathing hard.

  • Pilgrims taking the long-distance prostration to Lhasa is the dream of a lifetime for many Tibetans live in remote areas. They prostrate during the entire journey along the rural roads and highways to the Tibetan capital.This is a trip that can take weeks or months.  You can see that they are wearing aprons and boards with handles to protect their body.  They will take about 3 steps and then prostrate themselves in a slide to the ground.
